Family Camping at Marion Reservoir
What a refreshing time! Macey and I planned to spend this next Sabbatical of mine at the lake camping with a few family members. Going to the lake and setting up camp is one of our favorite things to do. I’ve never been to Marion Reservoir, so I was excited to pack up when I heard this is where we’re going.
I didn’t shoot as many photos this trip as I normally do while camping, but I got to shoot a little bit. The lake was beautiful. To be honest, I think Marion is my favorite place we’ve camped so far.
An easy memory we made this trip had to do with the temperature. It got soooo cold! At night it dropped to around 30° easy! It may have even reached 20°. I don’t know how we did it. Let me just say, we were around the fire a lot.
A second memory worth sharing involved a dramatic scare during a game of horseshoes with some of the guys. While I was throwing ringer after ringer (not really), I heard a gasp around the campfire a few feet away. Macey went to throw some trash into the fire, and her wedding band went into the fire! Her fingers get very slick and shrink when her hands get cold. Because of this, her wedding band has been known to slip off at times. Only this time, it wasn’t just on the floor…
The whole crew rushes to the fire and put our heads together for brainstorming and problem solving. We quickly threw water all over the fire, creating a huge pile of ashes and wood. Digging around for her silver ring in a large pile of gray ashes… I eventually found the ring and proposed to her again. 🙂 It was quite the event.
Aside from digging through fire for my wife’s wedding band, the weekend was enjoyable and relaxing. Temperatures rose, the wind died down, and no one else lost anything. We even broke out the projector for a movie night, as we’ve done in the past.
Visiting Marion Reservoir was definitely worth it. The bathrooms were clean and working properly. Camp sites had well-maintenanced fire pits, concrete work, tables, and shelters. Returning to Marion is in our future.
In addition to the fun selfies and portraits found on our social media profiles, I hope you enjoy these photos of our recent family camping trip to Marion Reservoir!
