The Spirit helps us..

It’s easy to get caught in the schemes of the enemy if we do not stand guard. Worldliness is enticing. No one in their right mind denies this. We must beware. We must be wise. All that the world has to offer is like fool’s gold. But there’s something better.

Daily, the Holy Spirit helps us detect and reject fool’s gold. To be truly rich in God is far better. Many riches of God are within reach. God is Creator. He is Redeemer. It is far better to discover the riches of God than to settle for what the world offers.

You see, the world offers temporary fixes and quick-fading pleasures. Nothing can truly be promised to you. We often think more money would just solve everything. More popularity could satisfy. Just a little more of this would be all! But I believe these thoughts are like fool’s gold.

When I talk about the “riches of God” I am talking about God, himself. Who he is. What he’s like. What he has done. What he’s doing. I believe that when we get to heaven we won’t be concerned about what our heavenly toy box is like. We will behold God. We will praise God. Forever. We will be so consumed with how awesome and wonderful he is.

Sadly, creation tends to get more praise than the Creator. However, we have the Spirit of God. Though we had grieved the Spirit, though we’ve been dull of hearing, we can turn. We can learn to listen. We can submit and bow down.

Listen to these words.

“And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one’s deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile, knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inheritedfrom your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with theprecious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.” 1 Peter 1:17-19

Lord, open our eyes; open our ears. Give us a clean heart that is set on pursuing you. You are the source of life. Apart from you we have no good. May we discern and reject fool’s gold, and become rich in you. Amen.
