Want to Go Deep in the Faith?
Do you consider yourself a spiritually deep person? Are you deep in the faith? Have you left churches before because they weren’t quite deep enough? Many Christians have become good at attending an array of different Christian events/programs. When it comes to spiritual matters, if things don’t seem deep enough, I would encourage you to try something: make a disciple.
Hermeneutics, dogmatic theology, church history, exegesis, prophecy, and revelation are a few examples of deep spiritual things. These aren’t to be ignored. Your pastor should be teaching such things. However, if these things are not leading you to make a disciple, it’s only for entertainment. I would argue, the deeper the preaching, the more disciples your church should be making. “Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more,” (Luke 12:48). We don’t always need more revelation, but can always use more application.
It is healthy to desire the deep things of the God. However, if the deeper things of God are not increasing your intimacy with Christ and helping you produce disciples of Christ, it is only entertainment. Desire the deep things of God! And make a disciple. It will be quickly discovered that by making disciples with what you’ve been given already will take things real deep.
