How Do You Renew Your Mind?

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. (Rom. 12:2)

No matter where you come from in life, at this moment, it does us well to jump right in to the things God desires for us. This will be a shorter word, but hopefully an impactful one.

In response to the passage above, what comes to your mind when you think about renewing your mind? What is the Holy Spirit telling you? Read the verse many times if you need, and ask God to speak to your heart. What needs to happen so that you do not conform to this passing world?

The natural inclination of man is to disobey God, and to be self seeking. This verse is a call to resist natural tendencies (put them off, rather) and to put on Christ. What are you tempted to put on instead? What have you allowed to think upon in place of God’s truth and promises?

I remind you of the first and greatest commandment—love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.

As finite wretches, we OVERTHINK many things, but today I have a simple solution for you. Though simple in theory, it’s challenging in application for most; however, everything may change. Rather than drowning in a to-do list each day right off the bat, you must first choose to do something way more important.

Stop, drop, read your Bible and pray.

I can tell you for certain the world is not doing this. If you want to be set apart, really renew your mind, and discern what God’s will is, then decide to read your Bible and pray every single day. I believe this is God’s will for you. When you don’t know what else to do, you can at least do this! And in faith, you already know how.

Martin Luther has a famous quote that’s fitting here. [1]”I have so much to do that I shall spend the first three hours in prayer.”

Like I said, we OVERTHINK too much. This word does us some good, especially pastors. Reading your Bible and praying every single day ministers well in and of itself! God will specifically teach you more to use for ministry during your communion time in the Word. Test yourself according to it’s truth. Examine yourself and see if you are more than a hearer of the Word, but also a doer.

May we treasure God above all else. May we be lovers of the Bible, meditating on it all day long! He is so worthy of our attention and affection.
