so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him. (Heb. 9:28)
This world, which is not our home, does a good job of handing us weight, daily. The cares of this world are fading, indeed, but are certainly real. Amidst the trails, work, and stresses of this life, there is rest to be found in Christ.
I have a piece of peace to give you—a rest for you, saints.
God is good. If you are in Christ, God is for you. Apart from Christ, we remain covered, drowning in our sins. By God’s rich mercy, we are justified in Christ, forgiven by his grace. If God is for you, who can be against you and succeed?
Do not let this world take your eyes off Jesus. This world wants to weigh you down with its distractions—all of which have an expiration date. Why not get lost in what is unending?
We need reminded of this constantly. An eternal perspective must be put on. Some people are able to see only three steps ahead of themselves; others are able to see 30,000. Let’s look up a bit and see what’s coming down the road.
Place the cares of this world in their proper place. They are not to be your god. The Lord is to be your God and your desire. He is to be your adoration and thought. Give the Lord homage. May the Lord not be the last place we run to, but the first.
»» He is coming back for you, church. ««
Do you feel this? Is there a weight to this for you? Can the cares of this world outweigh this reality—that Christ is coming back? Examine yourselves now to see which has the heaviest weight.
Does picturing the clouds being rolled back as a scroll carry more than remembering that bill needs to be paid soon? Does picturing the seraphim burning around the throne carry more than seeing a bigger house than yours? Does Christ on the cross carry more than what’s in your bank account?
Let us think about our real home. Christ will return.
This earth is fading. If we are in Christ, God is for us, and God is good. He is coming back. The day of salvation is closer to us now than when we first believed. Let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the Lord Jesus Christ. The world wants you to go down with it.
Think about your real home and remember whose you are.
